About this test

How well the kidneys are clearing waste: urea, creatinine, uric acid and the salts they balance. Important for anyone with diabetes or high blood pressure, which damage the kidneys quietly.

Before your test

• •Do not eat for 8 hours before the sample. Water is fine.
• •Carry on taking your regular medicines unless your doctor has said otherwise.
• •Bring the doctor's prescription if you have one — it helps the lab file the report to them.
