An amino acid that rises when B12 or folate is short, and is linked to heart disease and clots. Part of a heart-risk check.

Before your test

• •Do not eat for 10 hours before the sample. Water is fine.
• •Carry on taking your regular medicines unless your doctor has said otherwise.
• •Bring the doctor's prescription if you have one — it helps the lab file the report to them.
